Volunteering - " Take Action"

Volunteering

More organizations are relying on volunteers to get the job done. While volunteering does not provide a pay cheque, it is a very valuable experience that can lead to paid employment opportunities. Volunteering is also very rewarding and employers look favourably on applicants who have volunteer experience, because it demonstrates they are committed to their community and projects that help others. For high school students, they must complete a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer work to graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Their volunteer work could lead to a future co-op placement or part-time employment.

Employers

Employers are the back bone of all school to work transition programs for young people. They provide opportunities for youth to learn about the work place by offering co-operative education placements, participating in career and job fairs, acting as mentors for youth or providing work place tours. Employers are often asked to give back to their community, and through their support of students they are clearly making a difference for young people. By participating in school to work programs, employers are also helping themselves by helping to groom the next generation of workers.
