RENFREW COUNTY SKILLS COMPETITION
Scope of Team Carpentry – Teams of 4
 

Purpose of Challenge:

 A Team of four competitors will construct an 8x8 Outdoor Storage Shed to assess the contestant’s ability to accurately and safely complete general carpentry tasks using acceptable carpentry practices. This 8 x8 Garden Shed will have a pre-built floor, 2 pre-built walls and concentration by the students will be on the 2 remaining walls and the roof and door. 

General Skills  Knowledge to Be Tested:                                             
  •  To demonstrate skills and knowledge of reading drawings, basic machines, portable power and hand tool operations
  • To Work in a safe, competent, accurate and cleanly manner
  • Build a quality project prepared and ready for finishing
  • All phases of measurement will deal exclusively in imperial measure
  • Good Safety & Housekeeping
  • Ability to plan and to meet deadlines
  • Attitude towards work (teamwork)

  • Impact Driver and bits (Robertson)

  • Pencils and erasers

  • Portable Drill, Batteries & Charger

  • Chop Saw (Mitre - max cut 2x6) and stand

  • Measuring Tape                                  

  •  Saw Horse

  • Jig Saw

  • Framing Square: the 6 inch triangle square with slopes and degrees on it, will need to know how to work it.

  • Twist drill bits (up to 3/8)

  • Carpenter’s Hammer & Apron

  • 1” chisel

  • Hand Saw

  •  Personal Protective Equipment

  • Extension Cord (in good condition)

  •  Multiple layers of clothing

  • Power Tools (Circular Saw & Cordless Drill)

  • Materials and Hardware

** ALL Tools must be in good condition and in a toolbox.
