RENFREW COUNTY SKILLS COMPETITION
Scope of Small Power Equipment
Purpose of the challenge:
To test the skill and knowledge of each student with a Briggs & Stratton 9.00 ft/lbs torque (OHV) engine and to prepare each student for employment in industry.
Competitors will be completely assembling a dismantled Briggs & Stratton Engine
Note:This contest is limited to 18 individual competitors.
General Skills and Knowledge to be tested:
• Demonstration of safe work competence 10%
• Tool handling and technical competence 50%
• Use of repair manuals 10%
• General knowledge of 2 and 4 cycle 30%
Equipment and Materials:

Supplied by Competitor:
• Basic tool kit (metric and imperial) and multi-meter
• Safety glasses
• Shop coat or coverall
• Work boots (preferred if possible)
• Writing utensils (pen/pencil)

• Specialized tools

Registration – Tool kit inspection – Rules – No communication with teacher advisors during the competition. All questions to be directed to the person - in - charge of the event.

Engine Assembly

Successfully complete work on Engine Assembly including running test.

Challenge 1: Competitors will demonstrate their skills and knowledge by re-assembling a Briggs and Stratton 6.5 OHV engine which has been fully dismantled.
§ Fully assemble to the proper specifications – using logical step by step procedures
§ Properly start and run the engine including governor and idle settings
§ Demonstrate a basic knowledge of 2 and 4 stroke engines
§ Completing a short written quiz.
