RENFREW COUNTY SKILLS COMPETITION

Scope of Hairstyling and Cosmetology - 2011

 

Purpose of the Challenge:

  • To test the knowledge and skills of each student in the hairstyling and cosmetology fields and to help prepare each student for employment in this industry.

    PLEASE NOTE: That the models may have their hair pre-curled prior to the competition.

Skills & Knowledge to be Tested:

Competitors will demonstrate their technical skills and creative ability as well as their ability to work safely while creating the following:

a) Fantasy Up Do and Corresponding Make Up          AND
a) Nail Art ( Beautiful Nails)        
b) Bridal Hair and Corresponding Make Up

Note:    Live Models are required for the Fantasy and Bridal challenges and should wear appropriate clothing to emphasize the formal look.   Models hair can be precurled, prior to the beginning of the compeition. Mannequins will be provided for the braiding competition.

Compeitiors can choose one choice from Challenge A and one choice from Challenge B.

 
 
Equipment and Materials:
 

Provided by Competitors:
·       Professional, clean, comfortable work attire
·       Including closed-toe shoes (preferred)
·       Tools and supplies necessary for the completion
     of all services (including proper sanitizing procedures)
·       Ornamentation / accessories
·       Draping
·       At least 1 power bar and extension cord per school
Provided by Options Committee:
·       Mannequins and holders
·       Table space (4 competitors per table)
·       Electrical outlets (2 per competitor)
·       One chair per competitor
 
** Healthy Snack, Lunch and water supplied for all competitors.

**No communication with teacher advisors during the competition. All questions to be directed to the person - in - charge of the event.
 
Number of Students Participating from each School:
·           Thiese competitions are open to ONE Competitor/Team from each school.
·           Students who elect to participate in two Competitions will be scheduled accordingly to allow sufficient time to complete both events.  
·           Judging will be performed on the criteria that follow. 
 
TEACHERS PLEASE NOTE: Students will be scheduled throughout the day to compete in the competitions. Time slots will be distributed prior to the event.
 
Note: Both Heather Witt (FHS) and Janet Oattes (Opeongo) are willing to give a demonstration on ‘make-up’ application for those students in the hairstyling competition who have not had any training in cosmetology. Please contact them directly. 
 
Challenge A: Fantasy Up Do OR Bridal Hair with Makeup Design
– (Teams of 2) When choosing this component both services are mandatory
  • Students will create either a Fantasy Up Do OR a Bridal Hair Design with appropriate makeup for this combination service.
  • Both divisions may include twists, spikes, or curls, and appropriate accessories but no hair extensions are permitted.
  • Students should be aware of current high fashion/formal hair designs.

Challenge B: Unique Braid Design
  • This competition can consist of multiple braids, allowing the competitor to demonstrate their creativity.
