RENFREW COUNTY SKILLS COMPETITION

Scope of Carpentry Pairs (Team of 2)

Purpose of the Competition:

To test the skill, knowledge and attention to detail of a pair of students to work as a team in carpentry/ woodworking and to prepare each student for the demands of industry.

** The competitors will be constructing an Outdoor Lawn Furniture project.

 

    Skills and Knowledge to be Tested:
  • To demonstrate skills and knowledge of reading drawings, basic machines, portable power and hand tool operations
  • To Work in a safe, competent and cleanly manner
  • Build a quality project prepared and ready for finishing
  • All phases of measurement will deal exclusively in imperial measure

Equipment and Materials:

Supplied by Competitor:
*ALL Tools should be in good condition

 

  • Chop Saw (Mitre- max. cut 2x6) and Stand
  • Handsaw
  • Saw Horse Set
  • Jig saw & blades
  • Impact Driver and bits (Robertson)
  • Portable Drill, Batteries & Charger
  • Twist Drill Bits (up to 3/8”)
  • Hammer, Utility Knife, Tape Measure, Compasses & Pencils
  • Robertson #2 screwdriver and #2 Driver bit
  • Sanding block & paper 80, 100, 120
  • Framing square
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Extension cord with multi-adapter end
  • 24” Quickgrips are optional
  • *** Tools should be in good condition and stored in a toolbox

 

Supplied by Committee:

  • Materials for project
  • Table saws (1)
  • Screws

** Healthy Snack, Lunch and water supplied for all competitors.

All these projects will be auctioned off to the public with money raised going towards the Options Skilled Trades Student Bursary Program.

**No communication with teacher advisers or visiting students during the competition. All questions to be directed to the judges.

**The competitors will be located outside, thus appropriate clothing should be worn.
