Scope of Cabinet Making

 

Purpose of the Competition:

The purpose of this competition is to test the skill, knowledge and attention to detail of each student in fine woodworking/cabinet making and to prepare each student for the demands of industry.

 

Skills and Knowledge to be Tested:

·         To demonstrate skills and knowledge of reading drawings, basic machines, portable power and hand tool operations

·         To Work in a safe and competent manner

·         Build a quality piece of furniture/cabinetry prepared and ready for finishing

·         All phases of measurement will deal exclusively in imperial

** No Communication with teacher advisors or visiting students during the competition.  All questions are to be directed to the judges.

 

Equipment and Materials:

Supplied by Competitor:

·         Jig saw & blades

·         Drill & bits

·         Hand plane

·         Chisels ¼”,  ¾”

·         Robertson #2 screwdriver

·         Hammer

·         Plate joiner &  #20 biscuits

·         Sanding block &  paper 80, 100, 120

·         8 – 36” Clamps

·         Try square

·         Tape measure

·         Ruler/compasses/pencils/safety glasses

·         Extension cord

Supplied by the Committee:

·         Material for project

·         Table saws (2)

·         Miter saws (4)

·         Router table

·         Router bits

·         Screws

·         Wood glue

·         Power bar(s)

** NO ELECTRIC SANDERS

 

** Lunch and water supplied for all competitors.
