Take Our Kids to Work™ day

TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK™ DAY –  FIRST WEDNESDAY

OF NOVEMBER EACH YEAR

Take Our Kids to Work™ Day is a national initiative that allows Grade 9 students to trade in their school books and spend a day with a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host.

In Niagara, the BEC provides assistance and support to both area school boards - District School Board of Niagara and Niagara Catholic District School Board - as well as providing support to our business community.

Take Our Kids to Work™ Day supports career development by helping students connect school, the workplace and their own futures.

BENEFITS OF ONE-DAY JOB SHADOWING EVENT:
  • Exposes students to the world of work and encourages career exploration
  • Experiential learning highlights how education and the workplace are linked
  • Showcases career options to encourage our youth to consider viable careers available in the Niagara Region --“Let’s keep our talent in Niagara!”
  • Students can start to develop and recognize skills that employers want -- “employability skills”
  • Companies and organizations can highlight their products and services to current or potential markets
  • Students have the opportunity to see what their parents do for a living; parents have the opportunity to share an educational experience with their child, which in turn contributes to the increased understanding of the parent’s role in the household

We would like to extend our appreciation to all of the Niagara area businesses, parents, teachers, students and our Niagara region sponsors - Mountainview Property Management - for their participation and continued support. Don't forget to mark your calendar for Take Our Kids to Work™ Day on November 2, 2011!
