The fifth annual Oxford Invitational Youth Robotics Challenge (OIYRC) The OIYRC is a community-based partnership that encourages youth of high school age to consider careers in engineering, technology or the skilled trades. Goals of OIYRC:
- To give youth hands-on experience in design, construction and team problem solving by building and programming a robot for an industry modelled task
- To expose youth to innovative technology and to test their interests and abilities
- To connect youth with a mentor from the industry to provide valuable experience, learning about real world scenarios, problem solving and team building skills What a student from Huron Park Secondary School had to say...'we have to give credit to our mentor...he said having things timed is not a good idea because you never know what can happen down on the line....we replace the timer with the cuing of a touch sensor.'
