Hospital's volunteer program awarded

Clare McCardle wants to be a nurse —a neonatal nurse practitioner, to be precise. And she’s working hard to get there, volunteering at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre’s Maternal Child program.
She assists nurses, observes patients and, when things slow down for a moment, studies charts and documents to get a better understanding of how things work in the ward.
“I observed a C-section,” she said Tuesday. “It was very interesting.”
PRHC’s volunteer programs for teens has led to the hospital receiving one of 13 Passport to Prosperity Ontario designations. The award recognizes institutions that give young people a career-boosting start through engaging and educational work placements. Read more...
