Getting Started

What is School to Career?

School to Career Programs provide all Halton students with a series of unique opportunities to learn about the world of work, explore potential careers and gain valuable work experience. These programs assist all students who are bound for the workplace, university, apprenticeships or college to make informed and knowledgeable decisions about career pathways.

What types of programs are available?

In Halton, School to Career programs are divided into three categories:

  • Specialist High Skills Major programs enable students to customize their high school experience to suit their interests and talents and prepare for a successful post secondary transition to apprenticeship training, college, university, or employment, while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
  • Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs are designed to help students make a smooth, successful transition into or to their post secondary education apprenticeship programs.
  • Specialty Programs comprise a variety of School to Career programs that give students specialized work experiences in all kinds of different fields.
